BTS Reunion: RM and V Complete Military Service, Group Set to Regroup in 2025

Two members of the world-famous K-pop group BTS, RM (Ryu Se-hyun) and V (Vanoss Kim), have officially completed their mandatory military service in South Korea and are preparing to return to the stage. Their reunification marks the first step toward BTS’s planned regrouping in 2025.

All able-bodied South Korean men are required to serve in the military, a duty that has caused uncertainty about BTS’s future since the group announced in June 2022 that they would pause performing together. At that time, fans wondered whether the hiatus would become permanent. In a widely-covered statement, BTS’s agency, Hybe, clarified that the members would enlist on staggered schedules so that they could fulfill their service obligations and still come back together as a group by 2025.

RM, whose real name is Ryu Se-hyun, reflected on the personal toll of a decade spent at the forefront of the global music industry. He described how non-stop schedules and the constant pressures of fame had left him little time for self-reflection or creative exploration. RM said, “After 10 years of living as BTS and working on all our schedules, it’s physically impossible for me to mature anymore.” He added that the service break had provided an unexpected opportunity to recharge. “It must have recharged me in some ways,” he said, “so now that we are back, we’ll make something fun and share with you.”

While RM focused on the mental and emotional benefits of his time away, V also expressed excitement about returning to music and reconnecting with fans. Together, RM and V form a core part of BTS’s creative identity, and their return is widely seen as a signal that the group’s full lineup will soon follow.

Hybe’s announcement included a broad outline of BTS’s future plans, indicating that once military duties are completed, the members will reconvene to prepare new music and performances. Despite the hiatus, BTS’s global fan base has remained highly engaged, supporting individual members’ solo projects and eagerly anticipating the group’s reunion.

This milestone in RM and V’s careers highlights the unique challenges faced by South Korean entertainers, who must balance international success with national obligations. For BTS, the successful completion of military service by two of its most prominent members paves the way for a highly anticipated comeback and reinforces the group’s commitment to its fans worldwide.

“After a break that forced us to pause, we have plans in place,” RM promised, hinting at new creative ventures on the horizon. As 2025 approaches, the music industry and fans alike are watching closely for BTS’s next chapter.
