Jay Park's 'Mayday' featuring Ty Dolla $ign Takes Global Charts by Storm
SEOUL, May 21, 2025 — Korean hip-hop icon Jay Park has scored an international hit with his latest single "Mayday," featuring American R&B star Ty Dolla $ign, cementing his position as a leading crossover artist in the global music scene.
Released on May 13, "Mayday" serves as the title track from Park's sixth studio album "THE ONE YOU WANTED." The danceable R&B track, produced by longtime collaborator Cha Cha Malone, has been climbing charts worldwide since its debut, garnering millions of streams across major platforms.
The music video, filmed in the United States, showcases Park's signature smooth choreography against a vibrant club backdrop. The star-studded visual features cameo appearances from Bay Area rapper P-Lo, emerging artists Karri and sunkis, Korean rapper Okasian, and producer Cha Cha Malone alongside Ty Dolla $ign.
"THE ONE YOU WANTED" marks Park's return to R&B after eight years, following up on his acclaimed album "Everything You Wanted." Inspired by classic '90s and early 2000s R&B sounds, the new project boasts an impressive lineup of collaborators including international acts like Ty Dolla $ign and YG, alongside K-pop heavyweights IU, aespa's Ningning, Kiss of Life's Natty, Chungha, and Hwasa.
Park will kick off his "Serenades & Body Rolls" world tour with two sold-out shows on May 24-25 at Seoul's Olympic Handball Stadium before embarking on performances across Asia and Oceania. Both Seoul dates sold out immediately upon ticket release, demonstrating his massive appeal.
As the first Asian artist signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label, Park has been instrumental in elevating Korea's hip-hop scene through his labels AOMG and H1GHR Music. In 2022, he launched a new label, More Vision, further expanding his music empire. His cultural impact was recognized by the Smithsonian in 2019 when he received the prestigious "Game Changer" award.
Beyond music, Park has ventured into entrepreneurship with his premium spirits brand Won Soju and enhanced his fashion credentials as a Gucci global ambassador since 2023, illustrating his growing influence across multiple industries.
Industry analysts note that Park's continued success represents the increasing global acceptance of Asian artists in mainstream Western music markets, with "Mayday" potentially becoming his biggest international breakthrough to date.
